Chapada Diamantina National Park

Chapada Diamantina National Park is Brazil’s 'Lost World' with landscapes of oddly shaped rock formations, quartzite caves with crystal clear lakes, underground rivers, national monuments, and wildlife. Translated to the Diamond Highlands, it was first explored during the mid-19th century and only until 1985, it was recognized for its growing ecotourism as a national park. Visitors favor the park’s swimming holes, its waterfalls, hiking and biking trails, and of course the scenery that comes from visiting the vast lush plateau of green. Visitors can also dive the crystal clear lake locally called Gruta da Pratinha, canoe through the Pratinha River underground passage, and witness the landscape’s transformation from dry land to rainforest. A must visit is the Blue-Cave, a small pool hidden under a deep rock ledge where it gives an electric blue tone and only such a place exists in Brazil!
